Quick Update: Perthro: The Rune of Mystery is being put on the backburner for now. Once Expedition Epsilon and Trapped within Darkness are over it will be returned to. Thanks for your understanding!

The Chosen Path - “Go home and confront Mom”
Trapped Within Darkness
Part 3.4: First Encounter
All I could think about during the ride home with Oliver was how my mom is going to take the news. Hopefully, she is somewhat sober so I don't have an angry, pill-popping alcoholic coming after me. Even if that does happen, I'm still going to stay. I'd like to see her try and make me go.
When I walked in the house, I would be lying if I said I wasn't shocked. The house was already empty. All of our stuff was supposed to be here still, I was going to help her move it all into a U-haul that she rented.
"Mom?!" I yelled through the now empty house. My voice echoed through the halls with nothing to stop it anymore.
"Jeezus, what are you yelling for Kolt?" my mom said from at the top of the stairs.
"I don't know, I thought you were gone. Where is all of our stuff? I thought I was supposed to help move it into the U-haul with you?" I asked.
"Oh, I went to U-haul earlier and tried to rent the trailer, but they refused to rent me one. Something about me bein’ a liability. You believe that? So anyway, they recommended a cheap moving service and I hired them. They packed everything up and are already on the way to our new place." She responded.
"Oh...well Mom, I actually had something I was going to tell you." I admitted.
"What's that baby?" She said, as if nothing even happened this morning between us. She always does this. Though now she is sober, for the most part, she probably doesn't even remember earlier.
"Well today I was bitten by a spider, that's why I was so late coming home. Police found me and brought me to the hospital for treatment. From what the nurse said, I am pretty lucky to be okay. When I woke up Oliver was there and he had something to tell me. He knew we were moving and that I didn't want to leave this town, so he asked his parents if I could stay with them until I graduate next year; they said yes. So I just wanted to tell you, I'm going to stay here so I can finish school and still have Oliver, because he is my only friend." I reluctantly mumbled.
She just stared at me with empty eyes and a frozen smirk – the kind that you knew harbored a rise in frustration within an angry parent, before all hell was to break loose.
"Who the fuck do you think you are to tell me what you're going to do? I am your mother, and you have to do what I say. Ain't no way in hell you are staying here with that kid. He's not even family,” She seethed, words piercing like needles. “You are coming with me, and you don't have a say in it. Also, why the hell didn't you call me at the hospital? I'm supposed to be there for that shit. Who cares anyway, you're fucking fine, look at you. We are leaving now, so get in the car." she demanded.
"No Mom, I'm not getting in the car. Like I said, I'm staying, I don't care what you have to say about it. I have a shot at being happy, and being successful, and I'm not about to throw it away by going with you,” I fired back, voice on the rise. “By the way the hospital did call you, multiple times. They almost lost me. Yeah, your son almost died today, but you were too busy being drunk and high off your ass to care." I ranted, disrupting the calm autumn night.
"Now, you listen, and you fucking listen close," she fumed, grabbing me by the wrist with her mom-grip. "I'm going to say this one time and one time only. You are coming with me, end of story. There is no other option on the table for you. If you have a fucking problem with that, that's your problem, not mine."
Smack her.
"No, shut up!” I said aloud, in reply to my ever-darkening thoughts. “Let go of my arm!” I protested, trying to pull away from her.
“What the fuck is wrong wit–” My mom started to say, digging her nails into my skin.
Hit her hit her hit her HIT HER HIT HER.
"NOOOOOOO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Acting on pure adrenaline, I yanked my arm back, which caused her to go flying behind me. She landed in a loud thud against the wall, face first, into the hard concrete bricks.
For a second, I admit, I thought I killed her, but I should know better. The good die young, not the evil. She seemed dazed for a minute before she got her bearings and made it back to her feet. When she stood up I saw the damage; her nose was broken for sure, bleeding and bent and there was a cut above her left eyebrow that ran down to the middle of her forehead. I really fucked up. I didn't even mean to do that, she just wouldn't let go.
She stared at me with the rage of a storm, lightning filled her eyes and thunder itched at her throat.
"Now on any normal day, I’d be beating the everlasting shit out of you for what you just did. Hell, I might have even killed ya. Today however, you have a choice, son. Either you come with me, and shut the fuck up with your complaining or you go to jail for aggravated assault,” the words left her mouth as venom leaves a snakes fangs. “I'll even tell them you're high on oxy and provide them your stash, that's probably at least 5 years of jail time. So, your choice. you have 10 minutes. I'll be in the car. If you run, or try anything, I will call the cops so don't even think about it."
I stood there, empty, looking at my hands while she took care of her bloody nose and headed to the car. A bruise was already surfacing around where she had held my wrist, two small cuts remained where her nails had dug in.
There was no coming back from this. She knew she had me trapped, and there was nothing I could do about it. Oliver is going to be crushed; I am not looking forward to telling him the news.
My hair stood on end, but not from anger – from a bad feeling. Not a second later, a voice, the one from the darkness whispered into my ear, “Closer…and closer.”
Yikes, things did not go well for Kolt. He seems to be trapped in a corner with no choice but to obey his mother. Now he must figure out what he wants to do. Should he tell his best friend the awful news, or keep it from him? Maybe his father will have a solution he is not thinking of? Choices, choices.
